Facebook starts making money with Messenger and WhatsApp

WhatsApp Messenger and Facebook Messenger are two of the largest messaging applications on the planet, they are owned by the Facebook company. Although they have over 1 billion monthly active users, these applications do not generate much money for the Facebook company, or at least not for now, because Facebook wants to monetize them.

For Facebook Messenger, the monetization process has already started, the Facebook company is currently making money from virtual chat bots. No less than 33.000 such robots are active in the Facebook Messenger platform, they interconnect users with various companies around the globe, Facebook making money from the advertisements displayed in the application.

For WhatsApp, the plan is similar, except that in the case of this application, Facebook is in the early stages of the monetization process. Those from Facebook started to take the data of WhatsApp users through a change in the terms and conditions of the applications, but only next year will it introduce virtual bots for conversations and will probably display advertisements.

Although WhatsApp was successful precisely because it has no ads, Facebook bought the platform for over 20 billion dollars and needs to make money with it. Users have already started to complain about the ads displayed in Facebook Messenger and will do so in connection with WhatsApp, but those at Facebook don't care too much.
