Facebook is testing public discussion groups in Messenger

Facebook will allow the creation of public discussion groups for Messenger thanks to an update currently under development.

The Facebook company has started testing a new function for Facebook Messenger, the messaging application now allows the creation of public discussion groups. Such functions are offered by most competing applications, including WhatsApp Messenger, so it was time for Facebook Messenger to offer something similar for us.

For now, Facebook is testing these public discussion groups in Australia and Canada, and according to those who can use them, they are public, so anyone can participate in the discussions. Through these public discussion groups, regular users can participate in conversations with people they don't know, all in a way that is as open as possible, impossible until now.

At the moment, Facebook Messenger allows the creation of discussion groups that are private, but Facebook intends to soon allow the creation of public groups to facilitate interaction. Basically, users will have the freedom to participate in public discussions without restrictions and will be able to discover new interesting topics with the help of Facebook messenger.

The new function for Facebook Messenger has been in testing for a while within Facebook, so it will take some time until it is officially launched. Of course, it could undergo some changes, but it remains to be seen if Facebook will want to change a lot about it, or decide to offer it in the format in which it is now available.
