Hundreds of millions of Android phones spy on users

Hundreds of millions of Android phones are spying on Chinese users thanks to Adups software.

Platform Android it's fascinating because every day you find out how your privacy is trampled because you made the mistake of spending a small amount of money on a cheap smartphone. Last night, information was revealed according to which hundreds of millions of Android smartphones have software that spies on users and sends data to China.

Adups is the name of the respective software, which is able to read all messages, retrieve information regarding our location, or take data from the contact book, among others. All this information is transmitted to servers in China, even though the software was only supposed to receive data and transmit it anonymized to help smartphone manufacturers make better terminals.

BLU, Huawei, or ZTE are among the manufacturers that use this software, the first stating that they have released an update that removes it from their own products. The other two have not said anything for now, but the company behind Adups does not see this data collection as a problem, the mistake, according to them, lies in the fact that terminals with this software have reached the US markets.

Basically, Adups claims that it's ok to spy on anyone, as long as you don't do it with the Americans, and that's how the first accusations of espionage against the Chinese government appeared. At the moment, it is estimated that approximately 700 million Android terminals contain this Adups software and that user data is transmitted to China.

The truth is that a person who buys BLU, Huawei, or ZTE products probably doesn't think much about how well these products protect data privacy. In this idea, it is hard to believe that many owners of cheap Android smartphones will complain about this problem, but the whole world will know about it.

"Security contractors recently discovered preinstalled software in some Android phones that monitors where users go, who they talk to and what they write in text messages. The Chinese company that wrote the software, Shanghai Adups Technology Company, says its code runs on more than 700 million phones, cars and other smart devices."

Having said that, the Android platform is free and anyone can steal through it, with the Chinese most likely collecting enormous amounts of data from unsuspecting customers.
