Apple's competitors are afraid of running out of OLED screens

Launch of the aprim iPhone with an OLED screen put fear into the American company's competitors, who fear that they will be left without OLED screens for implementation in their own products. At the moment, the production of OLED screens is much lower than that of LCD screens, and Apple's entry into this market will leave some players without components.

In this idea, the companies Huawei, Oppo, Vivo and BBK formed a consortium designed to prevent Apple from monopolizing the purchase of OLED screen production. Samsung, Japan Display, LG Display and Sharp are the companies from which it is believed that Apple will buy its OLED screens for the iPhone, the Chinese fearing that they could be forced to produce fewer smartphones.

This consortium will try to limit the number of OLED screens that Apple will order from its partners, mainly Samsung, but it is hard to say if it will succeed. For years, Apple prevented its competitors from producing smartphones in large quantities by acquiring the vast majority of the production of microelectromechanical components.

Many manufacturers have had their production inhibited by Apple due to the large quantities of components they buy, and the Chinese are trying to ensure that this will not happen with OLED screens. Unfortunately for them, Apple has much larger resources and a much greater force and it will most likely affect their production, therefore implicitly the receipts.

"First-tier China-based smartphone vendors Huawei Technologies, Oppo, Vivo and BBK, due to concerns that Apple may monopolize supplies of smartphone-use AMOLED panels from Samsung Display and Japan-based makers in the future, will cooperate with China-based flexible panel maker Royole to form a consortium for joint investment in local flexible AMOLED production in 2017, according to China-based media reports. As a result, several China-based smartphone vendors have begun pushing partnerships with upstream panel makers to secure AMOLED panel supply."
