Galaxy S8 – disappointing performance for the new Snapdragon 835 chip

The Galaxy S8 could have disappointing performance after a performance test of the Snapdragon 835 chip was published on the Internet.

Galaxy S8 it could have disappointing performances, at least for some of the models that the Samsung company would sell starting next year. Yesterday, a new test for the future Snapdragon 835 chip appeared, and the results recorded by it in Geekbench are disappointing, even lower than those recorded by the iPhone 7.

In the image below you can see the results obtained by this Snapdragon 835 chip running on a smartphone running Android 7. This Snapdragon 835 chip has 1 processor with 8 cores clocked at 1.9 GHz, and the results are below those of the iPhone 7 in the tests single-core and multi-core equivalents.

More precisely, the iPhone 7 scores 3400 points in the single-core tests, compared to the 1844 points recorded for the future Snapdragon 835 chip in the test below. In the multi-core tests, the results are equivalent, that is, including the iPhone 7, it scores a little over 5400 points, so there is no reason to believe that there will be big differences here.

Galaxy S8 – disappointing performance for the new Snapdragon 835 chip

The results obtained by this Snapdragon 835 chip are slightly lower even than the Snapdragon 821 released last year, so they are debatable. More precisely, it can be seen that the working frequency is below 1.9 GHz, which is unusually low for an Android smartphone, and an increase in it will certainly provide better performance.

At the moment, it is speculated that the Galaxy S8 will have a Snapdragon 835 chip, separate from an Exynos 8895, clocked at 2.2 - 2.4 GHz. Such a difference in working frequency should have the effect of increasing the score by several hundred, or even over 1000 points, less for the single-core test and more for the multi-core test.

At the moment, the new Snapdragon 835 chip is inferior to the A10 Fusion in the iPhone 7, but there is time to improve performance, if everything will be possible. As the launch of the Galaxy S8 gets closer, we will see more performance tests for its new chips and we will be able to get a clear idea of what they will offer us.

The Galaxy S8 will be sold by Samsung with two different chips, Exynos 8895 and Snapdragon 835, which are offered in different markets around the world.
