Apple is accused of forcing users to update iOS

More than three years after the release of iOS 7, a lawsuit was initiated in the US accusing Apple of forcing users to install this version of the operating system. Then those from Apple blocked the possibility of using FaceTime in iOS 6, so it forces users to update to iOS 7 to benefit from this system.

Then it was explained that the change would have been related to a change in the providers of the services that were the basis of FaceTime, Apple wanting to substantially reduce operating costs. In today's trial, it is stated that in fact Apple modified the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S terminals to be unusable due to very poor performance.

However, the change was made because the technology initially used for FaceTime violates an invention patent of an American company, and it was modified following a lawsuit. This change cost Apple 8.3 million dollars a month to keep FaceTime running, iOS 7 solving this problem.

Although the cost issue was resolved in iOS 7, Apple was still paying for those using iOS 6, so now it is accused of intentionally letting a security certificate expire. Also discussed in the process are email discussions of Apple employees who talk about the move made to reduce costs, despite the impact on those with iOS 6.

Apple is finally accused of having violated California's legislation on unfair competition and that it would have affected the ability of users to use their terminals by forcing them to update to iOS 7. Of course, all of this will be difficult to prove in court, but even and so, we all know that Apple forces its users to update their terminals to the latest versions of the operating system.

"For iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S users, for example, the forced move to iOS 7 subjected their devices to slowness, system crashes, erratic behavior and/or the elimination of their ability to use critical functions on their phone. As succinctly stated in one of the media reports that discussed these widespread functionality problems, "the older handsets buckle under the weight of the new software." Thus, for millions of Apple's customers, a move to iOS 7 would significantly harm the functionality of their device."
