Two boats collided over an iPad tablet

iPad tablets are good for a lot of things, except replacing a compass when you go on a boat trip in an unknown area. The same thing was found out by the owner of a boat, but also of a ferry, a collision between them leading to the imposition of fines of 3000 pounds for each of the drivers of the two boats.

According to the British press, the owner of a boat thought to enter a crowded navigation area using the iPad tablet as a compass. Despite the dense fog, the trips went relatively well until the tablet lost Wi-Fi signal, and the boat floated without direction, being hit by a ferry, whose captain did not see it because of the fog.

The boat from which the whole problem started is approximately 15 meters long, but its owner went out to sea without making sure that he had warning lights or a functional radar. Considering that the ferry that hit her was 1400 times bigger, the boat sank half an hour after the collision, the 2 passengers being saved by another boat.

It is not known what kind of navigation application was used on the iPad tablet that was left without internet before the collision, but that matters less. Now if you ask why the captain of the ferry was fined, it seems that he would not have realized that a collision had occurred, due to the very large dimensions of his vessel, he continued on his way to Gotenbord, Sweden, without announcing the authorities.

Having said that, if you ever end up going out to sea by boat, don't use an iPad tablet without a constant internet connection.
