CIA: malware that totally controls the iPhone and iPad

A few hours ago I told you that the CIA managed to gather a lot of exploits that allow the removal of iOS security measures from the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The CIA invested serious sums in a unit that collected this software, but managed to lose it due to the fact that it was distributed to too many people close to the government.

However, those exploits can still be used by those who own them, and with their help Apple products can be controlled almost entirely. Specifically, using these exploits, anyone can activate iPhone and iPad microphones, retrieve their GPS location, read their text messages, and record images using their cameras.

Basically, the CIA managed to obtain a software so powerful that with its author any kind of Apple product can be exploited, regardless of the iOS version. We are most likely talking about zero-day exploits, which are not known to Apple, but have the ability to fully exploit iDevices, on multiple versions of iOS.

Considering the activity of those from the CIA, obtaining such exploits for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch is perfectly normal, they allow the products to be compromised without problems. Having said that, it will be interesting to see what other information will be discovered about how the CIA can exploit Apple products.

"It is also claimed that a specialized CIA unit was set up to target iPhones and iPads, allowing the agency to see a target's location, activate their device's camera and microphone, and read text communications. The unit is also reported to have made use of further iOS "zero days" obtained from GCHQ, the NSA and FBI."
