These will be combined with a new front camera, and the Apple company wants to offer us a varied range of new functions for iPhone 8 thanks to these changes prepared with its partners.
Augmented reality seems to be at the center of the iPhone 8 development process, and these 3D sensors will facilitate the implementation of this technology in the terminal. Apple needs these 3D sensors so that the iPhone 8 can perceive the objects around us much more clearly, but also their depth in relation to the ground, or other objects, around us.
Details about the possible applications of the iPhone 8 that would benefit from these 3D sensors do not exist, but probably those for the camera and maps will be in the foreground. iPhone 8 – 3D sensors are the key to the new functions
Using these 3D sensors, iPhone 8 will be able to create virtual 3D maps of the environment, and for augmented reality these functions are essential. Basically, Apple wants to allow us to use augmented reality to "see" the world with other "eyes", specifically those of the 3D sensors that the iPhone 8 will have from 2017.

In this idea, it is very clear that the iPhone 8 is testing prototypes that have 3D sensors implemented near the camera, but this does not mean that the final version will really have them included.
