iOS 10.3 solves a colossal security problem

iOS 10.3 was released last night by the Apple company, the new version of the operating system bringing a multitude of novelties, but also solving a wide range of problems. Among them is an extremely important one of Safari, which allowed scammers to trick Safari users in order to extract money from them very easily.

More precisely, based on this Safari problem, scammers could display various alert messages when opening certain websites and trick users. More precisely, they displayed messages that seemed to be from government agencies, informing users that they had to pay a fine for accessing that website.

These attacks are called ransomware, they are generally displayed on websites with online movies, pornographic content, or for downloading music and movies from the Internet. According to some researchers in computer security, it seems that quite a few people were fooled by these attacks, but iOS 10.3 solves the problem.

Until the implementation of this solution in iOS 10.3, scammers could completely block Safari and not allow surfing the Internet until they received money from users. Of course, everything was based only on those alert messages, because in reality deleting the Safari history allowed surfing the Internet without problems.

These Javascript-based alerts generated nerves for many iDevice users, but the Apple company saw fit to bring things back to normal. In the image below you can see how these alert messages that the scammers displayed look like, but in some they asked for money to solve the problem.

"The scammers abused the handling of pop-up dialogs in Mobile Safari in such a way that it would lock out a victim from using the browser. The attack would block use of the Safari browser on iOS until the victim pays the attacker money in the form of an iTunes Gift Card. During the lockout, the attackers displayed threatening messaging in an attempt to scare and coerce victims into paying."

That said, if you want good reasons to install iOS 10.3, well this is one of them.
