Kniterate, the 3D printer for knitting that anyone can use

3D printing technology is great if you need to create something out of plastic or even metal or ceramic. But what happens if you want a thicker scarf, a sweater?

Meet Kniterate, a "digital knitting machine", which very easily takes digital patterns and knits them into easy-to-wear fabrics, by simply pressing an automatic button. Patterns or patterns such as scarves with simple bindings can be knitted entirely by Kniterate, while more complex pieces such as dresses or sweaters require a bit of assembly after the machine has done the work.

The company is also developing an application to make it easier to design patterns, by adding custom images and texts based on the type of stitch used.

According to the Kickstarter page, Kniterate hopes to bridge the gap between traditional home knitting machines, which are admittedly cheaper, but complicated and difficult to use. That said, a single Kniterate costs $4,699 on Kickstarter, and the first Kniterate units are expected to ship in April 2018.
