Samsung has once again overtaken Apple on the smartphone market

This month Samsung will announce the financial results for Q1 2017, without saying how many smartphones they sold globally, but the first estimates regarding the company's sales have now appeared. Apple will only announce global sales on the smartphone market on May 2nd, but TrendForce analyzed the sales of both companies to provide us with some interesting details.

More precisely, in Q1 2017 Samsung again surpassed Apple in smartphone sales, the difference between the two smartphone manufacturers being 9.2% in market share. TrendForce estimates that in Q1 2017, 307 million smartphones were produced, with 92 million units less than in the same period last year, the decrease being almost 30 percent.

According to TrendForce, Samsung captured 26.1% of the smartphone market, while Apple managed to reach a market share of 16.9%, the two companies keeping their top two positions. If in Q4 2016 Apple surpassed Samsung in smartphone sales, in Q1 2017 things changed, but this was mainly thanks to the cheap smart phones sold by Samsung.

Anyway, most of the smartphones sold by the Samsung company are much cheaper than the iPhone terminals of the Apple company, otherwise the Koreans would not have reached Apple in the top. On the third place in the list of manufacturers we have those from Huawei, they kept their percentage of 11% recorded in the fourth fiscal quarter, a sign that things have not changed for them.

"Samsung's sales results for its high-end smartphones fell short of expectations in the first quarter as consumers' confidence in the brand had yet to fully recover from the recall of Galaxy Note 7. Nevertheless, Samsung continued to do very well in the mid- range and low-end segments of the market. The economically priced, high-performing Galaxy J series sustained Samsung's shipments and contributed significantly to the expansion of the brand's overall smartphone production volume. Samsung was the only brand that saw positive growth in production volume during the off season of the first quarter."
