Mac sales increased in Q1 2017

Although a recent study revealed that the popularity of Macs has decreased dramatically in recent months, those from IDC say that sales would have increased in Q1 2017 compared to Q1 2016. In the table below you can see that Mac sales have - would have increased to 4.2 million units in Q1 2017, compared to 4 million units in the same period last year, the market share increasing by 0.3% as a result.

We are talking about a tiny increase in Mac sales in a year, the Apple company only managing to remain constant instead of registering substantial increases in sales. However, this small increase once again assures the Apple company the 5th place in the list of PC sellers globally, otherwise Acer would have stolen this position, selling only 27.000 units less than the Apple company.

Although PC sales decreased in Q1 2017 compared to Q1 2016 by 1.6 million units, most of the top 6 manufacturers recorded increases in global sales. Of all, those from HP registered the biggest increase, of 800.000 units, having a total of 12.1 million units, with only 160.000 units less than Lenovo, the company in position 1.

Those from Apple have been in the 5th position in the list of PC sellers globally for several years and it doesn't seem likely that they will leave this position anytime soon. The reality is that Macs are expensive and available in fewer versions than competing products, so only certain types of customers are brave enough to buy them.

"The top three vendors — Lenovo, HP and Dell — will battle for the large-enterprise segment. The market has extremely limited opportunities for vendors below the top three, with the exception of Apple, which has a solid customer base in specific verticals."
