The new Apple Store in Dubai Mall enjoys a unique construction feature that Apple has created to make the store even more impressive. In the animated image below you can see what it's all about, the new Apple Store in Dubai Mall having motorized carbon fiber windows that close in a way never seen before for an Apple store.
Apple claims that these windows were created in this way to minimize the use of air conditioners in the store, the area being one where extremely high temperatures are reached. We are talking about 18 windows that are 11.5 meters long each, Apple stating that this would be the largest kinetic "art" installation in the world.
This store is located right across from the famous Burj Khalifa hotel, and the windows were inspired by local history, as Apple is wont to do. So, what do you think about this achievement?
"To mitigate Dubai's climate, Foster + Parters designed eighteen 37.5-foot-high motorized "Solar Wings" that respond to the ever-changing environmental conditions. When the sun is at its hottest they cool the store, and in the evenings they open to welcome everyone to the public terrace. Inspired by the traditional Arabic Mashrabiya, each "Solar Wing" is locally fabricated from 340 carbon fiber reinforced polymer rods, and at 180 feet wide, the 18 panels make up one of the world's largest kinetic art installations."
