Draconian security measures in factories that assemble the iPhone

The Foxconn and Pegatron factories that assemble iPhone terminals for the Apple company must impose very strict security measures so that the secrets of those in Cupertino are not revealed. Among them are very strict checks made for all employees who enter the iPhone production lines.

According to a former student employed in a Pegatron factory, simple ID readers are not enough, the factories also have scanners for facial recognition. Moreover, employees are not allowed to enter the production lines with electronic devices, in order not to be able to record what is happening there and divulge secrets.

Things become even more complicated when a new iPhone is produced, then the security measures are increased, with two metal detectors at the entrances, these having a very high sensitivity. The measures are so strict that some of the employees could not enter with certain types of bras that contained metal detected by those devices.

"We need to swipe our card, and they have facial recognition. When I was producing iPhone 7, they increased their security level. There were two metal detectors in the factories, and they also increased the sensitivity of it. Like, for example, some girls have some bras that have metals in them. All of a sudden, on that specific day, they couldn't pass the security door, and they needed to go back and change everything."

Employees were not allowed to use phones on the production lines, but managers were allowed to do so, although their terminals were checked. The checks were made not only for the existence of pictures of the production lines, but also to discover any stolen sketches hidden in the cases of the respective phones.

"Every time when they need to go through the metal detectors, the security will ask those managers to press the button on their phone, so that they can see the screen. Because I think there are some cases where they bring an iPhone and put it in a case of a fake phone and just carried it out."

Adding to all this frustration, the employees who assemble iPhone terminals on the production lines don't even know what the final version of the product they are assembling looks like. THEY know what the case looks like and they recognize the product, but they don't have sketches that describe the total design of the product they are assembling, only the respective component.

"A lot of the workers, on the first day they start producing it, we can tell that there's no headphone jack there. And then we can see that they have two cameras. So those are some things that we can see and we can remember and we can tell the media later on."

Although those from Apple impose draconian security measures on the production lines of the factories that assemble the iPhone, details regarding the new products continue to appear.
