Apple is imposing a major change for iCloud

In case you forgot, I remind you that starting from June 15, the Apple company will impose a major change for iCloud and the applications interconnected with it. More precisely, those from Apple will force us to set dedicated passwords for each of the applications that store the data from our terminals in the iCloud servers.

We are talking here about third-party applications from the AppStore that use iCloud to store usage data from our terminals, so the native ones will not be affected. This measure is imposed by the Apple company for iCloud with the idea of increasing the security of the platform and preventing the taking over of data by hackers or government agents.

If users do not set dedicated applications for each application that connects to iCloud, the applications will stop working. Apple started reminding users today through an email sent to almost everyone who has an iCloud account, so that no one will be able to say that they were not notified in advance of the changes.

Only some of the applications in the AppStore will be affected, because the applications that use Apple's APIs to integrate iCloud will not require setting a password. Using this password will anonymize iCloud login data for customers who use applications that store data in iCloud, so the respective services will not know the real password with which we log in to Apple services.

These dedicated application passwords require that we first activate the 2-step authentication system for our Apple ID. After that, from the website appleid.apple.com we can set the specific passwords for each individual application using the Security section, so it would be good to do everything ahead of time to avoid problems.

"Beginning on June 15, app-specific passwords will be required to access your iCloud data using third-party apps such as Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, or other mail, contacts and calendar services not provided by Apple. If you are already signed in to a third-party app using your primary Apple ID password, you will be signed out automatically when this change takes effect. You will need to generate an app-specific password and sign in again."
