Digi Mobil wants the surcharge on roaming rates

Digi Mobil wants to impose a surcharge for roaming services, so that customers do not benefit from Roam like at Home in the standard version.

Digi Mobil wants the surcharge at the rates of roaming which will apply starting from June 15 through the plan Roam like at Home, otherwise he claims that he cannot cover his operating costs. Those from Digi Mobil have already sent a request to ANCOM to approve the surcharge for roaming services, which will be applied for a period of 12 months, that is, until June 15, 2018.

This surcharge requested by those from Digi Mobil can be renewed every year for another year, for a limited period of time, but even so it will give big headaches to customers who use its roaming services. Digi Mobile motivated the gesture by the fact that the prices of its subscriptions do not cover the plan Roam like at Home, so that very high roaming costs will be generated.

ANCOM had announced that there is a possibility that some operators will apply a surcharge for roaming even after June 15, and those from Digi Mobil are the only ones who requested this. Of course, it was to be expected that Digi Mobil would ask for such a thing since its subscriptions are so cheap that it was impossible to believe that Roam like at Home could be supported on them.

Despite the fact that it should have been clear that Digi Mobil will not allow the use of subscription and roaming benefits so easily, many customers hoped in vain. I am sure that there are customers of Digi Mobil who imagined that by paying 2 euros for a subscription they will be able to talk in Roaming until they get bored and they will be able to use the Internet like at home.

Well, here is Digi Mobil serves them a cold shower to wake up to reality and find out that when you pay 2 euros for something, you have services of 2 euros and the lack of roaming benefits. ANCOM is still analyzing the request submitted by Digi Mobil for the surcharge dedicated to roaming tariffs, but it will most likely approve it before June 15.

"This will have a materially negative impact on the mobile telecommunications business, given that we generally offer packages with unlimited calls for a fixed rate. This business model is based on call prices on the local market, and the lack of additional roaming tariffs could lead to a massive increase in roaming consumption, which could generate significant roaming costs for us to other operators (at wholesale rates ), which we could not recover according to the current business model."

Digi Mobil is the smallest mobile phone operator in Romania, with only 3 million customers, half of what Telekom has, and roaming costs will remain high. It is not known how much the surcharge imposed by Digi Mobil for the use of its services in roaming will cost, but I imagine that it will be high enough to discourage those who pay 2 euros per subscription to use it in roaming.
