474 iPhones used in a clickfarm with 300.000 SIM cards

The police in Thailand recently announced the arrest of three men who created a clickfarm composed of over 400 terminals iPhone and over 300.000 SIM cards. We are talking about hundreds of iPhone terminals that were used to promote products within the WeChat social network, but not in a way quite as legal as one might think.

The 474 iPhone terminals were composed mainly of the iPhone 5S, 5C and 4S models, being connected to computer screens by the three men of Chinese nationality. Apart from these 474 iPhone terminals, 347.200 SIM cards of some mobile phone operators in Thailand were also found, but these had not been used until the time of the search.

The police believed that in the searched location the men actually had a call center through which telephone fraud was committed, but in reality, they had a vast network of WeChat accounts. This is the largest social network in China, and the three men used the click farm to earn 4400 dollars each month from generating interactions with WeChat posts.

The click farm had been created in Thailand thanks to the low costs for mobile internet at mobile phone operators, many other click farms also existing there. With over 700 million monthly active users, WeChat is also full of robots created through these click farms, many of them working thanks to iPhone terminals.

The men were not arrested for creating the click farm, but for various other crimes, including the use of unregistered SIM cards, or smuggling. The police do not yet know how the men bought such a large number of SIM cards from the operators, the figure being truly impressive, but with money you can do anything.
