Samsung Galaxy S8 has disappointing sales

The Samsung Galaxy S8 has disappointing sales in the US, according to Kantar, putting the smartphone far behind the iPhone 7.

Samsung Galaxy S8 records disappointing sales in an extremely important market for the Samsung company, despite the recent praise of the Koreans. According to recent information published by Kantar, Samsung Galaxy S8 sales are far below expectations in the US, while iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus remain the best-selling smartphones.

We are talking here about the months of February, March and April, but only in the last month the Samsung Galaxy S8 was available on the market and only for a third of the period. iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus generated 36.5% of sales during this period, while Samsung Galaxy S8, based on preliminary data, will only account for 8.1% until the end of May.

The percentage registered by the Samsung Galaxy S8 in this period is lower than that of the Samsung Galaxy S7, of 8.8%, last year, if we take into account the availability periods. Those from Kantar also take into account sales until the end of May to be able to make an exact comparison between Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S7, and the news is not good for Koreans.

If these Kantar data are corroborated by other sources, then it seems that the Samsung Galaxy S8 has had a problematic start in the US, a very important market. There, the Samsung Galaxy S8 did not manage to enter the top 10 best sellers even until the beginning of June, so the Americans did not show that much interest in this product.

Although the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus sold very well in the US, things did not go so well in China, where they fell compared to the same period last year, and no data is known about the Samsung Galaxy S8. Apple has big problems in China with the sales of iPhone terminals and although they have increased compared to the previous fiscal quarter, they are still not close to those recorded in previous years, Samsung Galaxy S8 may have another evolution.

"The Samsung Galaxy S8, released in the last two weeks of the April period did not show a significant impact on Samsung's sales in the period ending in April. Neither of those made the list of Top 10 best-selling phones. Early indications in our data for the three-month period ending in May 2017 show that the S8 and S8 Plus will reach a combined share of 8.1% in the US, slightly behind their predecessors the S7/S7 Edge at 8.8%. iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus remain the top sellers during the May period."

The Samsung Galaxy S8 was presented as a real success by the Samsung company, but this is based on its own data on global sales. Samsung did not say in which markets the Samsung Galaxy S8 would have sold the best, but those from Kantar do not seem to agree that the terminal had a good evolution in the US.
