Telekom - reorganization and positions abolished due to low income

Telekom announced a reorganization and the abolition of 180 manager positions within the group, the president Miroslav Majoros making the announcement at a press conference organized yesterday without much fanfare. The Telekom conference was most likely aimed at calming the press and responding to the confirmed rumors that 1500 employees are to be fired.

According to the president of Telekom, the branch in Romania, Miroslav Majoros, most of the employees from the 180 manager positions. who will be announced, will keep their positions. It is not known how many of them will be fired, but the reorganization of those from Telekom is done because of the low revenues that the operator registers, despite the customer base.

The president of Telekom stated that this reorganization of the company is not a large-scale one, but it is necessary to keep costs under control at the moment. He also stated that Telekom has too many managers in the companies it controls, so some of them will leave, while others will probably enter lower and worse paid positions.

However, the most important information here is that Telekom, despite its 10 million customers, has much lower revenues than the group expects. The President of Telekom admitted this during the press conference and the courage to say this shows that somewhere, someone understands that a change of thinking is needed to be successful.

Apart from the managers who will leave, Telekom will also lay off another part of the employees, but it is not known if it will be about dozens, or maybe even hundreds of people. Telekom has low revenues due to the poor services it offers on the mobile telephony side, this division having the largest number of clients, but similar revenues to the fixed services division.

Telekom has such big problems with mobile phone services that last year it had to sign an agreement to use Orange's 4G network to expand its coverage in Romania. Telekom took over in Romania in the fall of 2014, after the acquisition of the former Cosmote, but the evolution of the operator was a negative one with a changed president already in 2016.
