Clever Taxi is a taxi application developed in Romania that has collected the largest number of registered taxi drivers, but also the largest number of registered users. Clever Taxi managed to gather in the years of activity no less than 17.000 drivers registered in its platform for 20 cities in Romania, but also over 600.000 customers, and this attracted the attention of Daimler Mercedes.
Those from Daimler Mercedes would have paid at least 10 million euros for the Clever Taxi application, which mediated 20 million taxi trips in Romania. Daimler Mercedes made the purchase through the MyTaxi company, which owns the mytaxi.com platform, which has over 100.000 drivers registered throughout Europe, minus those in Romania.
Clever Taxi was founded by two Romanians, Mihai Rotaru and Alexandru Dumitru, but together they owned only 58.6% of the company's shares. 34.1% of them were owned by Bestjobs recruitment and another 6.1% by Andrei Pitis, co-founder of Vector Watch and current vice president of the engineering division within Fitbit, who bought Vector Watch this year.
Clever Taxi was bought by Damiler Mercedes for at least 10 million dollars
The real figure for the purchase of Clever Taxi was not disclosed, but the company's president stated that it is an amount of 8 figures in euros. All Clever Taxi actions were bought by MyTaxi owned by Daimler Mercedes, and now the platform will be taken care of by them, probably with as much attention as it has been until now.
The name Clever Taxi will most likely be kept initially thanks to the brand's notoriety, but those from Daimler Mercedes could decide to change it. Considering that MyTaxi is a much better known brand in Europe, those from Daimler Mercedes could make the decision to give up the Clever Taxi brand soon and no one will lose from this.
Clever Taxi was one of the taxi ordering platforms appreciated by Romanians, mainly thanks to the options for selecting drivers, but also the option to pay by card. It is not known if the sale of Clever Taxi to Daimler Mercedes will bring changes to the way the application will work, so it remains to be seen what they will announce next, if they will announce anything.
