Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Mirage of Promises

The Samsung Galaxy S8 will soon not have a functional Bixby assistant in English and Chinese due to Samsung's inability to complete it.

Samsung Galaxy S8 was launched by the Samsung company "with great fanfare" in April, the terminal being promoted worldwide with a very varied range of functions. Among them is the personal assistant Bixby in the Samsung Galaxy S8, which should have provided some of the main functions of the new smartphone, but which is still far from ready.

According to some sources within Samsung, Bixby does not seem capable of learning English and Chinese, so Samsung Galaxy S8 users are left without the most expected function. Although Bixby learned the Korean language without problems, the Samsung company cannot help the personal assistant in the Samsung Galaxy S8 to learn the English and Chinese languages properly, leaving 2 major markets without an assistant.

Last week, Bixby was released in beta version for the US market, and those who tried it on the Samsung Galaxy S8 had a sign of incompetence from Samsung. Although the assistant can perform its functions quite well when it understands the commands, the problem is that most of the commands spoken to the Samsung Galaxy S8 are not properly understood by Bixby.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and the mirage of promises for Bixby

According to sources within Samsung, the Korean company lacks data and experts in foreign languages to be able to teach the artificial intelligence behind Bixby and the Samsung Galaxy S8 to recognize English and Chinese. In the absence of such people with experience in such a field, the Samsung Galaxy S8 is forced to offer users truncated functions, lacking an assistant.

Although last year Samsung bought a company founded by the creators of Siri, they did not participate in the creation of Bixby, so that is why the Samsung Galaxy S8 lacks a true personal assistant. Bixby was developed for the Samsung Galaxy S8 before Viv Labs was bought, so it was impossible for the team to do anything else for this Samsung software.

"Bixby's linguistic capabilities are still unsatisfactory compared to its bigger rivals such as Amazon's Alexa and Apple's Siri. We are still working on improving the linguistic skills in order to provide a more advanced AI assistant that meets user needs."

Samsung promised that Bixby for Samsung Galaxy S8 will be launched in May or June, with English and Chinese languages already learned, but it is clear that this will not happen. Unfortunately for those from Samsung, it still takes a lot of time for Bixby to learn to recognize the commands given to the Samsung Galaxy S8 without problems, and no one knows when the final version will be offered.

These problems that the Samsung company has with the Samsung Galaxy S8 suggest that Apple has invested huge resources to prepare Siri for beta release and shows again how big the difference is between the 2 companies.
