Samsung will launch its own Smart Speaker

Samsung will launch a smart speaker based on the personal assistant Bixby, but probably also on the technologies of the company Harman Kardon, bought last year.

Samsung will launch its own smart speaker to compete more effectively with Apple, Google, Amazon and Microsoft in a new market with very high growth potential. Apple announced a month ago the launch of a smart speaker called HomePod, and those from Samsung will develop a similar product, because everything Apple does is worth copying and who is the best at it?

Nor can Apple be praised for inventing smart speakers, copying the idea from Amazon and Google, and Samsung will follow the same trend in order not to lose "contact" with the big IT companies. As expected, the smart speaker from Samsung will work with the help of the personal assistant Bixby, which for now only knows how to understand the Korean language and nothing more.

The best part is that Samsung bought Harman Kardon last year, so they own a company that makes excellent speakers and could release a smart speaker superior to anything else on the market. At the moment, the smart speaker from Samsung is being developed within a project that has the code name Vega, the project being initiated about 1 year ago.

Although Samsung's smart speaker has been in development for 1 year, considering that Bixby does not recognize the English language for now, it is not known when it could be launched. It is impossible for Samsung to launch a smart speaker without having a personal assistant who understands English, considering that in the USA and Great Britain there are the most potential customers for such products.

Currently, 36 million Americans, about 10% of the country's population, use a smart speaker at least once a month, twice as much as in 2016. Considering this potential customer base for smart speakers, Samsung must to seriously focus on teaching Bixby how to speak English, and to understand it, otherwise the product will be a failure.

"Samsung Electronics Co. is developing a voice-activated speaker powered by its digital assistant Bixby, according to people familiar with the matter, joining a proliferating arms race in tabletop devices. The timing is far from determined, the people said. The English-language version of Bixby has been delayed and they said many of the speaker's features and other specifications are yet to be decided. But the project—internally…”

In a market that is slowly becoming full of "players", Samsung will have to have a better or cheaper product than HomePod to be successful. If Samsung's smart speaker will be more expensive than HomePod, then it will have to be much better, and if it will be cheaper, it will have to surpass Amazon Alexa and Google Home.
