Microsoft has started Laying Off Employees

Microsoft today started to lay off some of the employees who work in the sales and marketing divisions, several thousand people being targeted.

Microsoft has already begun to program the procedures for the dismissal of some of the thousands of employees who will remain without a job in the next period. On Monday, we told you that Microsoft will lay off several thousand people from offices around the world, and today we learn that the first procedures for layoffs have already been scheduled by the company.

Microsoft is going to start laying off employees during this day in some countries, in others the employees have already been laid off, considering that we are hearing, in Romania, at the end of Thursday. Employees in certain countries say that the conference rooms of some of Microsoft's offices have already been set up for the proceedings, with some employees having appointments for them today.

Microsoft has scheduled 15-minute meetings in the conference rooms with the employees who are to be laid off, with their managers also present. The information is provided through a platform dedicated to global employees, 25.000 of them being present there and publishing details about what is happening inside the Microsoft company at these moments.

Microsoft has not officially announced these layoffs, but it has already announced to its employees on Monday that it intends to make major changes in the sales teams. Several thousand people from these teams will be fired, entire divisions will merge, and Microsoft will focus on selling the cloud services it currently has in the public offer.

Microsoft has not announced to any employee willing to talk and how many jobs it is going to cut this week, but the rumors are that it would be several thousand. Some of the employees who will not be fired now by Microsoft could be transferred to other divisions and could have other tasks within the company, but at least they will keep their jobs.

In the morning, Microsoft had 121.567 employees in offices around the world, 52.000 of them, or approximately 40%, working in the sales and marketing divisions. It is possible that up to 10% of these Microsoft employees will be fired by the American company today and in the following days, their jobs being taken over, at least partially, by cloud services.

Microsoft has made a habit of firing people during July, especially since now its fiscal year is ending, so it remains to be seen what will be announced officially or unofficially regarding the unfolding of today's events.
