This is how much Romanians watch TV every day

The television occupies a lot of time in the daily activity of Romanians, a new study tells us what are the preferences in terms of types of TV channels.

TV remains the main method of finding out the important news from Romania and the whole world, but also the main source of fun, or wasted time, for the Romanians who stay at home. Despite the global trend of abandoning television for online streaming services, in Romania this almost a century-old device still has a lot of power, and a recent study tells us how we use it daily.

According to the study done in Romania, 36% of Romanians have two televisions at home, 30% have three televisions, 19% have only one television and 17% have 4 televisions. I have to admit that most of the people I know have at least 2 televisions in the house, I have 2 in the house and I'm sure that many of you have acquaintances who fall into this category, the majority by the way.

Regarding the time spent in front of the television, almost half spend two to three hours in front of the television every day, a reasonable period. One fifth of Romanians spend between four and six hours a day in front of the television, and a tenth of Romanians spend over 6 hours a day watching who knows what because you don't really have anything to watch for that long on television.

Quality matters when you watch TV for at least 3 hours a day

At the weekend, habits change, 17% of Romanians spend more than 7 hours in front of the TV, 34% spend between 4 and 6 hours watching TV. Because television is important and quality matters, 60% of Romanians are willing to pay extra for HD TV channels, 22 lei being the amount they would be willing to pay to cable service providers.

The percentage increased from 39% last year, who were willing to pay 25 LEI for five HD channels, even though now 72% of Romanians consider HD quality important. It is also logical, moreover, considering that many have bought new televisions, which also have Full HD resolutions, and on them the SD channels have a terrible quality, so they pay more for quality.

"Romania is one of the few countries where viewing time is increasing, on linear television, it is far above the world average. The world average is around three hours, and Romania was around 5,27 hours in 2015 and 5,46 hours in 2016."

If we look at what Romanians watch, well 69% prefer documentary channels, 63% entertainment and 50% sports, but where are the news channels? Well, they lost their popularity, reaching 77% compared to 81% last year, but they still remain in first place in the Romanians' preferences because, isn't it, what do we know better than politics ?

The study is called Television consumption index in Romania 2017 – TVCI Romania 2017 and it was made by those from ASTRA. What do you think about this study?
