Facebook Builds Its Own Suburbia

Facebook owns the largest social network on the planet, but also the largest messaging applications in the world, but the company is much more complex. Although Facebook is only known for the social network, in reality it has many separate projects under development and has many employees who work to bring them to fruition and launch them.

Facebook has a huge campus in Menlo Park, California, where many of its employees work, and for some of them it intends to do something that even Apple has not thought of. More precisely, Facebook wants to spend an important amount of money to build no less than 1500 houses for the employees who work for it, but also for their families.

Facebook wants to build an entire suburb around its campus in Menlo Park, and that's because, apart from the houses, it will also build other businesses for them. More precisely, Facebook intends to build a supermarket, a pharmacy, organize a public transport network, shops where people can buy clothes or other products, plus many other facilities.

Facebook has also created a series of concept images that show the whole world how the community it created in Menlo Park would look like, everything resembling what we see in other locations around the world. The entire project of those from Facebook is thought to be developed for a period of 10 years, so it will take a lot of time for everything to be built.

Facebook hopes that by 2021 it will complete the first part of the project, which only involves building some houses and some of the shops that will serve the residents. After that, Facebook planned to complete other parts of the project in periods of 2 years, during which people will be moved to what has already been completed by the builders and can be lived in.

"Working with the community, our goal for the Willow Campus is to create an integrated, mixed-use village that will provide much needed services, housing and transit solutions as well as office space. Part of our vision is to create a neighborhood center that provides long-needed community services. We plan to build 125,000 square feet of new retail space, including a grocery store, pharmacy and additional community-facing retail.”

Facebook will offer most of the houses for its employees, but others will also be sold to other people, some of the houses will also be sold at below market prices. Facebook says that its project will bring many benefits not only for customers, but also for the area where the project is built, but of course it remains to be seen how good everything will be.

Facebook has good ideas, but there will certainly be many who will wonder what is hidden behind initiatives of this kind.
