Windows Phone died fighting with iPhone and Android

Windows Phone "died" trying to compete with iPhone and Android, support for version 8.1 being stopped today by Microsoft.

Windows Phone officially "died" today, the Microsoft company ceasing support for version 8.1 of the operating system for mobile terminals. Windows Phone had its last update, the 8.1 3 years ago, and the end of support for it is a sign that Microsoft wants to completely forget about the failure of this operating system, but also about the failure of the associated smartphones.

Windows Phone was meant to compete with iPhone, iOS, and Android, but in the end it turned out to be nothing more than another lost bet by Microsoft. Windows Phone is still running on several million mobile terminals around the world, but considering that it has not been updated for 3 years, those who still use it know the risks they are exposing themselves to using it.

Windows Phone runs on 80% of smartphones that have an active Windows operating system, the remaining 20% running the mobile version of Windows 10, which still has support from Microsoft. Version 8.1 of Windows Phone was important for users of Microsoft's smartphones, bringing the personal assistant Cortana for the first time, but that did not change the direction in which everything is going.

Windows Phone died fighting with iPhone and Android

Windows Phone in version 8.1 represented the last major attempt by those from Microsoft to convince the world that their operating system still deserves a chance. Unfortunately, at that time iPhone and Android had more than 90% of the smartphone market, this share currently reaching 99.6%, so Windows Phone is as insignificant as Blackberry OS.

Windows Phone disappears long after the last Lumia terminals were launched with it installed, and the mobile version of Windows 10 represents the future, even with new terminals in development. Windows Phone seems to have been Microsoft's last big attempt to make an operating system for smartphones, the mobile version of Windows 10 not getting much attention now.

Windows Phone has disappeared and with it disappears an entire era in which Microsoft counted in the battle for the smartphone market, the company now having completely different goals. Windows Phone is no longer a concern for Microsoft, those from Redmond now having in the foreground the market of computers and laptops, for which they are developing a Windows 10 with many interesting functions.

Windows Phone will go down in history as one of those operating systems that was not thought through enough to make an attractive smartphone, unlike iOS and Android.
