iPhone 8 – iOS 11 GM CONFIRMS Face ID and News

iPhone 8 through iOS 11 GM has confirmed Face ID, the True Tone screen, the function bar from applications, the Portrait Lighting function and many other novelties.

iPhone 8 by iOS 11GM has confirmed many of the novelties that the Apple company wants to offer us in this year's phone. We are talking about an iOS 11 GM that was published by Apple "by mistake", as happened more than a month ago with the operating system for the HomePod smart speaker, revealing many secrets of the iPhone 8 ahead of time .

iPhone 8 still has many secrets revealed today thanks to iOS 11 GM, so we are talking about a lot of functions that are confirmed for Apple's phone. From Face ID to the True Tone screen, or new video recording options, or the new design, iOS 11 GM confirms many of the iPhone 8 novelties that Apple fans have been waiting for for a long time.

Portrait Lighting – close to DSLR

Portrait Lighting is a new function that will be offered in iPhone 8, this will be an improved version of the Portrait function that Apple implemented in iPhone 7 Plus. You already know that the Portrait function applies a blur effect to the background of our pictures, keeping the main subject in the foreground, as DLSR devices do, and with the iPhone 8 Apple wants to improve the system, but it will also release it in beta version.

iPhone 8 will have the Portrait Lighting function with a series of new functions for recording photos, these being Contour Light, Natural Light, Stage Light, Stage Light Mono and Studio Light. Basically, depending on the area where we record the pictures using Portrait Lighting, the background will be covered in various ways and probably the pictures taken with the iPhone 8 will have a different appearance, but Apple must present everything first.

1080p and 4K video recording at 240 and 60 FPS

  • 1080p HD at 240 fps 480 MB with 1080p HD at 240 fps
  • 4K at 24 fps (Footer) 270 MB with 4K at 24 fps (film style) (HEVC Footer) 135 MB with 4K at 24 fps (film style)
  • 4K at 60 fps (Footer) 450 MB with 4K at 60 fps (higher resolution, smoother) (HEVC Footer) 400 MB with 4K at 60 fps (higher resolution, smoother)

The iPhone 8 will also have improvements for video recording, according to iOS 11 GM, and here we mean an increase in the number of frames per second for recordings. More precisely, for video clips made in 1080p format, i.e. at 1920 x 1080 pixels, the speed will increase to a maximum of 240 FPS, i.e. a slow motion at a much better resolution on the iPhone 8, which many wanted since the implementation of this function .

The 4K video clips made with the iPhone 8 will also be able to be recorded at a better speed, i.e. at 60 FPS, and they will be played much more naturally. The size of 1080p and 4K video clips will increase when recording at these new speeds using iPhone 8, and below you can see how much space they will occupy depending on the format in which they will be recorded, HEVC being now introduced with iOS 11.

True Tone screen borrowed from the iPad Pro

The iPhone 8 will finally have a True Tone screen, the Apple company taking over the technology offered in the iPad Pro for more than a year to improve the new phone. With a presumed resolution of 2436 x 1125 pixels and an OLED True Tone screen, the iPhone 8 will offer a clearly superior experience for viewing content on the screen, with Apple's technology changing the color balance in real time depending on the ambient environment .

The True Tone screen was and remains one of the most praised functions of the iPad Pro, and in the iPhone 8 we could talk about exactly the same thing starting this year. Some rumors suggested that the iPhone 8 will have a True Tone screen and here they turn out to be 100% true, so the Apple company really wants to offer us an excellent user experience for its phone.

Face ID – facial recognition in iPhone 8 presented in a tutorial

Face ID in the iPhone 8 there will be a facial recognition system that will completely replace Touch ID, Apple abandoning the fingerprint reader together with the Home button. iOS 11 GM confirms the name Face ID for the first time for iPhone 8, in previous versions of the operating system, the facial recognition system was named Pearld ID, so we know very clearly what Apple will call this function.

iPhone 8 has presented in the short video clip above the animation that will help us configure Face ID so that the phone can do facial recognition for us. Beyond this brief introduction to Face ID from iPhone 8, there is absolutely nothing else new on the media side in iOS 11 GM, so it remains to be seen if other news will be discovered for it.

The Power button becomes the Home button in iPhone 8

iPhone 8 side lock button

The iPhone 8 will have a elongated Power button, as you can see in the image above, and this means that Apple thought of it in this way to perform certain functions. According to iOS 11 GM, the Power button of iPhone 8 will take over some functions of the Home button, one of them being the one for double pressing, it will display the credit cards saved in Apple Pay when the interaction is done in this way.

iPhone 8's Power button will be named side button instead of lock button, so its name will be changed, and Siri will also be able to be activated with it, as we found out a week ago. iPhone 8 will also have new accessibility functions in this button, which allow adjusting the speed of pressing, as happens with the Home button, Face ID can also be activated with its help, but the volume can also be adjusted.

The iPhone 8 will have the side button as a replacement for the Home button, and this explains its lengthening to be easier to press with such a large screen.

The function menu button in each application

iPhone 8 was rumored to have a portion of the screen dedicated to a so-called menu for functions and this is true, because each application will have a thin bar displayed below it. We are talking about a very small portion of the iPhone 8 screen that will be occupied by it, allowing the activation of a menu of functions that opens like the Control Center and offers a variety of options, the images above being suggestive.

Animated emoji to keep you busy on iPhone 8

Finally, iOS 11 GM reveals the fact that iPhone 8 will have a series of animated emoji characters that we can play with, they are present in the image below. They will be available for iMessage, so we will be able to share them with those we are talking to through the platform, the iPhone 8 will be able to play them without problems, but they will certainly be available also on other iPhone models.

Presentation on September 12

iPhone 8 will be officially presented on September 12 by the Apple company and I'm waiting for you on iDevice.ro to discuss all the news starting at 19:30.
