Apple and LG Develop a Foldable iPhone

Apple and LG are jointly developing a foldable iPhone with an OLED screen, Samsung being excluded from the process in order not to steal Apple's ideas.

Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), and LG are in the process of developing a iPhone foldable, the two companies have been collaborating for some time in this project, without involving the Koreans from Samsung in it. Apple chose to collaborate with LG for this project because it is afraid that Samsung will not steal its ideas for its own foldable smartphone that it has in development, something that probably already happened with some iPhone models in the past.

Apple has full support from LG to develop this new iPhone model, the Korean company creating a team of employees dedicated to the completion of this project together with American engineers. LG wants to provide Apple with a viable OLED screen for a future iPhone that will fold as Apple wants, but no one knows how long it could take until the phone could be released.

Apple and LG are developing a foldable iPhone

Apple could have the first foldable LG OLED screens for the future iPhone only in 2020, 2 years after Samsung would like to launch its own phone of this kind. Although Apple usually develops a new model of the iPhone a year before the launch, in the case of the collaboration with LG, a longer period is needed for the development of the phone due to the complexity of the OLED screen that must be used in it for the launch.

Until now, Apple has not been in the middle of any rumor that would suggest that it could launch a foldable iPhone with an OLED screen, so the information comes as a first for everyone. If LG will be able to provide Apple with the OLED screen it needs for the iPhone, its not, it remains to be seen, but by 2020 we will definitely find out if this rumor has any real basis, or if it is just someone's imagination.

"Apple has reportedly started working on a foldable iPhone with LG Display possibly due to concerns over tech leaks to its archrival Samsung Electronics. LG Display recently created a task force to develop a foldable OLED screen for the new iPhone model, while its parts-making sister firm LG Innotek has also setup a team dedicated to developing the rigid flexible printed circuit board."
