Tim Cook stated in an email that at the moment there is no news worth announcing by the company, but that the Mac Mini is still part of Apple's future plans, so we can expect an update in the next period.
Apple has these standard answers ready for products that are in full development and are going to be launched on the market at one point or another, but they are not ready for the moment. The same thing happened shortly before Apple announced new models of the Mac Pro, only that then it was not Tim Cook who provided the information, but the vice president of the marketing division, Phil Schiller.
Apple will release a new model of the Mac Mini at some point, but I think we will have to wait until 2018 to see it.
