Face ID does not work on iPhone X with low battery

iPhone X will not allow the use of Face ID if the battery percentage falls below a certain value predefined by the Apple company, according to those in Cupertino.

Face ID it will not work on the iPhone X if the battery's energy level drops below a certain percentage, confirms Apple in a recently published support document. According to those from Apple, the iPhone X will no longer allow the use of Face ID if we have less than 10% of the battery energy available for the phone, so then we will have to use the access code.

Basically, the new TrueDepth camera in Face ID seems to need quite a lot of energy, since it will not work on the iPhone X if the battery level drops below this value. Touch ID in the old iPhone models does not have such limitations imposed by the Apple company, so we are talking about something completely new for Face ID in the iPhone X.

iPhone X basically brings us back to the "market age" of unlocking mobile phones when the battery power drops below 10%, and Apple didn't prepare us for that. Why there is this limitation imposed by Apple for the use of Face ID, no one knows for now, but American journalists will probably ask this question as well.

iPhone X with a Face ID that works for only 90% of the time of use is not a phone that you can fully enjoy, and in Android there are no such limitations. I would like to believe that Apple will remove this limitation for the iPhone X and Face ID someday, but I think I'm hoping for nothing.

  1. Interesting. It remains to be seen how the iPhone X will perform after a year of use, when the battery loses about 5-8% of its capacity.

  2. Zaone passes this news to fakenews, now I also tested a friend's X-uk that had 4% and it works flawlessly... ah, Apple was going to make it the 10% threshold in a future update, that's something else...

  3. I already changed the battery on the 6S plus once under warranty, the phone was taken on January 5, 2016, the battery was changed with a new one (verified) on March 1-2, 2017. It had something like 28% battery wear level (2000 mah from 2750). Now, after 7 months, I already have 16.4% battery wear level, that is, I still have 2300 mah out of 2750 mah. Until December, it will surely jump by 20% when I will take it under warranty again for the same problem. At least I will have a new battery before my 2-year warranty expires. Yes, only charged with the original charger, occasionally with the iPad charger.
I think my "luck" to have an A9 chip manufactured by Samsung (Chipgate) has something to do with it.

  4. I called the service, and more recently, the procedure is to leave the phone with them to diagnose the battery (it is no longer done on the spot). And I don't feel like backing up, missing the phone for a few days, restore, and risk it coming back with the mess of iOS 11 as a bonus.
I also remember that on the 6S+ last year I changed the battery on the spot, under warranty, with 16% wear, but in the meantime the service rules have changed and they ask you to leave it, and it costs 396 RON, VAT included (if the battery is not defective, but only has normal wear and tear). So I will try to change it myself 😉

  5. Being a titanium customer with them at Vodafone, I have priority in service, I think they are more lenient with me and change my battery on the spot even if I only have 16% wear, they also turn a blind eye. I leave it on Monday morning, for example, in Timisoara for service and on Wednesday at noon I receive a message that I can come and pick it up. And keep in mind that it is sent to Bucharest where it arrives Monday after dinner at best. So I've been without it for about 2 days, I'd rather pay 400 lei for the battery.

  6. In fact, with the battery at 1%, ID no longer works, probably to save the last drop of energy. Anyway, if I had to choose between unlocking with Face ID and a 1-5 minute call, I would definitely choose the call.
