Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), has an idea about the future of his Macs and in the middle is the possibility to control the computers using simple gestures made in front of the front camera implemented in them. A new patent registered to the Apple company describes this new control system for Macs thought by Apple, which is very interesting.
The new control system for Macs is based on technologies developed by a company called PrimeSense, which created the Kinect sensor for XBOX before being bought by Apple. 4 years away from that acquisition, those from Apple seem to be close to having a clear idea about how the technology could be used in Macs.
Apple wants us to control our Macs using gestures
Primesense also contributed to the development of Face ID for the iPhone X, and this system could also reach Macs, with the TrueDepth camera simplifying the gesture control process. In its patent, the Apple company talks about the TrueDepth camera, which can understand the gestures made by Mac users much more easily than a normal camera.
"A method, including receiving, by a computer executing a non-tactile three dimensional (3D) user interface, a set of multiple 3D coordinates representing a gesture by a hand positioned within a field of view of a sensing device coupled to the computer, the gesture including a first motion in a first direction along a selected axis in space, followed by a second motion in a second direction, opposite to the first direction, along the selected axis. Upon detecting completion of the gesture, the non-tactile 3D user interface is transitioned from a first state to a second state."
Hand gestures can control a variety of functions on Apple's Macs, but for now there is no clear idea of what Apple would like to offer. A long period of time could still pass from the patent to the final product, so don't expect Apple to allow controlling Macs with gestures too soon.
