Apple uses Chrysler to test autonomous cars

Apple uses Chrysler to test an autonomous guidance system for cars, the Cupertino project being very advanced.

Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), it is used by the Chrysler company to test its self-driving cars, but don't think too far because we are only talking about the technology and the hardware itself. Apple is not developing an autonomous car, but an autonomous guidance system for cars, which will be sold to car manufacturers.

Apple would have rented a testing base from Chrysler to test its new system, this being located in Arizona, not so close to the offices in Sunnyvale, where the team from this project works. Despite this, Apple has leased the location since a few months ago and is working hard to develop the autonomous driving system for cars, so it probably got pretty far with it.

Chrysler used the location in the past to test their cars before putting them on sale, and Apple probably did a little fitting before testing their cars. Apple has several thousand square meters of road on which it can test its cars and can even simulate the traffic of a city to ensure that the autonomous guidance system is calibrated correctly.

"Apple appears to be leasing a former Fiat Chrysler-owned proving grounds in Arizona to test autonomous vehicles, according to a source familiar with the matter. […] Over the last several months, Apple has been recruiting automotive test engineers and technicians from other proving grounds in the state, according to the source. The company signaled its intention is to test autonomous tech, the source said, which tracks with Apple's revamped approach to self-driving cars."

Apple has already been licensed by the American authorities to test self-driving cars, the Americans not being able to shorten the plans to develop this system. When we will find out, however, how advanced the Apple project is and how far it could go, remains to be seen, especially since the Americans are very secretive.
