Apple claims that hundreds of millions of people around the world use Shazam at the moment on multiple platforms, but also that a combination with Apple Music is something "natural". Apple will pay between 400 million and 1 billion dollars to buy Shazam, an amount much smaller than that spent to acquire Beats, the largest transaction made by the Americans. Acolo este vorba despre licențe și brevete software. În cazul Shazam, pur și simplu este vorba de un program care să scaneze melodiile, cărora le face o hartă o amprentă wave, și pe baza căreia le poate recunoaște.
Google și-a făcut singură programul de recunoaștere, singură Gmaps, singură Gmail, etc.
