Apple still wants to do things in a different way, and as iOS is one of the two platforms with hundreds of millions of app users, we can expect the change to be a very good one. The applications will have to be designed so that they work with a touch screen, with a trackpad, with a mouse, or possibly with other peripherals, they will be functional only in iOS 12 and macOS 10.14.
