The first Specifications of the 5G Standard have been Adopted

The first specifications for the future high-speed 5G networks were established by the 3GPP organization just the other day in Portugal.

The first specifications of the future ones 5G networks have already been adopted, the companies that are part of the consortium that establishes them making the decision on some of those that will form the 5G standard. 3GPP is the organization that establishes these standards, and during a conference in Lisbon, Portugal, it established the specifications for 5G NR (New Radio), which will be used in future high-speed 5G networks.

Based on these specifications established for 5G NR, GSM equipment manufacturers will be able to create products to be used by mobile operators to create their 5G infrastructure. Based on the specifications to be established, the 5G networks will have support for the frequencies of 600 and 700 MHz, for those of 3.5 GHz and 50 GHz, but the documents are to be published this week.

The mobile operators wanted the specifications for 5G NR to be established by the end of this year in order to be able to make plans for starting the creation of the 5G infrastructure next year. Many mobile operators have announced that they want to launch 5G networks right from 2020, so in 2019 they should be ready at least for public demonstrations, so we won't have much to wait in the future.

High-speed 5G networks will bring a multitude of new benefits not only for regular customers, but also for companies that want to be able to remotely control various interconnected objects. To be completely honest, I think that 5G is a big step towards the future, but we will have to wait a long time until everything is ready, including in Romania, 20202 being the year announced for the launch in our country as well.

"The specifications reportedly cover support for low-, mid- and high-band spectrum, from below 1 GHz, like 600 and 700 MHz, all the way up to around 50 GHz, and include the 3.5 GHz band. The Standalone (SA) version is due for completion in June 2018, defining the full user and control plane capability for 5G NR using the new 5G core network architecture also being done in 3GPP. Both the NSA and SA versions share physical radio air interface aspects.”
