Tablets have their days numbered because of Phablets

Tablets are on the way to extinction, phablets generating such high sales that we are witnessing a major change in user preferences.

2017 is the year in which tablets with small screens gave their "last breath", because recent information shows that people are no longer interested in them. Globally, only 4% of the mobile terminals sold in the week before Christmas were tablets that had small screens, that is, somewhere up to 9 inches.

This is the lowest percentage of sales recorded by these types of products in the last 3 years, it being halved compared to the one recorded during the last year. Along with this decrease, the disappearance of interest in small phones was also observed, as well as a 1 percent decrease in the sales of tablets with large screens, but this does not surprise her.

It is surprising, however, that phablets, i.e. smartphones with screens of at least 5 inches, have increased in sales by 16 percentage points compared to 2016. Comparing the figures with 2015, we see a doubling of sales for this type of smartphone , people's preferences for them being as clear as possible.

"Phablet devices (5in-6.9in) have successfully overtaken medium phone (3.5in-4.9in) market share in 2017 with 53% of all holiday activations. Phablets have proven to be consumers' device size of choice, often eliminating the need for both a tablet and medium or small phone. Full size tablet device activations have stabilized, with Phablets eating away significantly at Small Tablets and Medium Phones.”

Smartphones with medium screens, i.e. up to 5 inches, also recorded a decrease of 10 percentage points in sales compared to 2016 and 19 percentage points compared to 2015. The future is definitely phablets, and tablets are on the verge of extinction, those with small screens becoming almost completely irrelevant in global sales.
