Here's How Much Money Was Spent on Christmas Apps

Christmas is one of the most profitable times of the year for app developers, and in 2017 they had an excellent development for their own titles. According to those from Sensor Tower, 192 million dollars were spent in the AppStore and Google Play for the purchase of applications for iOS and Android.

The vast majority of this amount was spent on games, $158 million to be exact, while only $36 million was spent on regular apps. Basically, in 2017 we see again that games are much, much more popular than regular applications, and this is not going to change anytime soon.

The interesting part is the fact that the amount spent on games in 2017 increased by only 8 million dollars compared to 2016, while in the case of applications the increase is 14 million dollars. It seems that in 2017 the interest in applications increased more than that in games, the difference being 50% for applications and 5% for games.

Of course, there is no division of earnings between AppStore and Google Play, but Apple's application store generally generates much more money than Google's. If I were to give my opinion based on what happened in the past, the AppStore generated roughly double the revenue compared to Google Play.
