Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), announced yesterday the financial results for Q4 2017, but together with this announcement it also revealed how much iPhone, iPad and iPod Touches are still active at the moment. According to those from Apple in January 2018, 1.3 million iDevices are active globally, the figure being 30% higher than the one recorded 2 years ago by Apple.

1.3 billion active iDevices globally is an important achievement for the Apple company, because there are 1.3 billion customers who use its products and some of its services. The number did not increase much during the two years, and this is because some of the active ones remained unused by Apple customers.

Comparing it with Android, which in May 2017 had a little over 2 billion active devices, Apple remains at a great distance, but this is perfectly normal. Apple alone sells iDevices and has 1.3 billion active units, while for the Android platform there are thousands of sellers and probably double the number of active units globally.

"We've achieved a significant milestone with our active installed base of devices reaching 1.3 billion in January. That's an increase of 30% in just two years, which is a testament to the popularity of our products and the loyalty and satisfaction of our customers."

Apple has an impressive achievement, but certainly its number of active terminals is lower than that of Samsung, which sells even more units annually. Samsung is the only manufacturer of smartphones and tablets that surpasses Apple in annual sales and has more active devices, the rest being all behind the Americans.
