Apple Talks About Publishing iPhone's iBoot Code

Apple spoke for the first time about the publication of the source code of iBoot in the iPhone and the security implications for customers around the world.

Last night I told you that permanent jailbreak solutions could become a reality after the source code of iOS 9 and iBoot was made public, it could lead to the development of solutions based on a bootrom exploit. The revelation is huge and I haven't seen anything similar since the iPhone 4, if I remember correctly, everyone being completely taken by surprise by the fact that Apple published unencrypted versions of iOS 9 and ARM64.

The press around the world today discussed the importance of this source code of iOS 9 and iBoot, and the company Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), she had to talk about the security risks for iPhone and iPad. The whole press presents this disclosure as a serious security problem for iPhone and iPad, saying that this is the biggest disclosure in the history of iPhone and iPad, but Apple claims that the reality is much different than what the journalists think.

Apple seems to confirm the fact that it has indeed revealed the source code of iOS and iBoot, but claims that the iPhone and iPad are designed to be safe, this in the conditions in which it requested the withdrawal from some websites of some pieces of the code source. Apple says that this source code is for a 3-year-old iOS, but that matters less, because it says that its products have "multiple layers of security" that must be removed for problems to occur.

"Old source code from three years ago appears to have been leaked, but by design the security of our products doesn't depend on the secrecy of our source code. There are many layers of hardware and software protections built into our products, and we always encourage customers to update to the newest software releases to benefit from the latest protections."

Apple presents the situation as a trivial one, which will not affect the average user, but computer security researchers claim that based on these disclosures exploits could be discovered in the bootrom that would allow a permanent jailbreak. Of course, Apple could never admit that such security problems exist in its operating system and mobile products, but maybe reality will show us what is true and what is not.
