Apple Invests in an OLED Screen Manufacturer

Apple is investing an impressive amount in a manufacturer of OLED screens to be able to launch future products of the last generation dedicated to consumers.

Apple Invests OLED Screens

Company Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), invests together with LG and Valve in a manufacturer of OLED microscreens called eMagin, according to information disclosed by the American authorities over the weekend. We are talking about a company that develops OLED microscreens that can be used in smart glasses, headsets for virtual reality, or other devices with similar functions.

10 million dollars is the amount invested by the three companies in eMagin, without knowing which part was offered by Apple, LG, or those from Valve, but we will probably find out someday. For now, eMagin develops microscreens that are used in military, medical and industrial equipment, but recently it turned its attention to headsets for virtual reality.

Apple has been investing serious amounts of money in the development of a pair of smart glasses for some time, so its interest vis-à-vis microscreens should not surprise. If eMagin is successful in its plans to develop OLED microscreens for consumer products, Apple will have a lot to gain from it.

"We entered into strategic agreements with multiple Tier One consumer product companies for the design and development of microdisplays for consumer head mounted devices and, together with these companies, negotiated with mass production manufacturers for higher volume production capabilities."

Of course, from the simple investment to the possible launch of products based on the technologies of eMagin is a very long way, but Apple has the necessary resources to complete any projects. Apple is constantly investing in a variety of companies and projects to launch next-generation products, so it shouldn't come as a surprise what we're learning now.
