iPad 2018, or the sixth generation of the iPad tablet, was announced today by the Apple company during a press conference organized in Chicago, USA. We are talking about an event that has as its theme education, those from Apple updating the model launched in 2017 with a series of changes to make it attractive for schools, pupils and students.
iPad 2018 is going to be the cheapest version of the iPad tablets that the Apple company sells at the moment, but of course it also has the fewest functions of all. Although this cheap version of the iPad has fewer functions, it still comes with an interesting change, namely the implementation of Apple Pencil support.
Specifications
iPad 2018 remains with the same 9.7-inch screen that we see in last year's model, but keeps Touch ID for fingerprint scanning, so Face ID will not be part of the series. However, at the price of $300, which is how much this product will cost in the US, Apple has included a screen with a higher refresh rate, to allow the use of the Apple Pencil.
iPad 2018 also has an integrated system that realizes how much pressure is applied to the screen and this is very useful in creative applications. The iPad remains with the same large screen margins, but it will have some special functions for creativity and the educational environment included in the iWork suite.
iPad 2018 has an A10 chip, from the iPhone 7 series, a main camera of 8 megapixels and a weight of only 453 grams, so we are not talking about substantial changes compared to the previous series. Practically, the use of an A10 Fusion chip from the iPhone 7 series is a clear proof of the fact that the tablet is not designed to offer extraordinary performance.
iPad 2018 is going to offer 10 hours of autonomy for the battery, just like the models released before it, so it's basically just an upgrade compared to the previous series. Just like any other Apple product that can run iOS 11, the iPad 2018 allows the use of applications for augmented reality, quite a few of which have been created so far for Apple tablets.
iPad 2018 is offered to educational customers with 200 GB of free iCloud storage space, but it also allows the use of third-party styluses, such as Logitech's.
Price and release
iPad 2018 will be available for order starting today through the Apple Store, but deliveries will begin in the following days. iPad 2018 will cost $329, without VAT, in the USA, or $299, without VAT, for schools, but in Romania it could cost around 400 euros, the launch for us not being announced yet.
