Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), is attacking the phone and smartwatch market with new state-of-the-art screens that they are currently developing with TSMC, a surprise partner in the Americans' efforts. Apple develops micro LED screens for iPhone si Apple Watch, smart watches being the first in which these new types of screens should be implemented.
Separate from Apple Watch and iPhone, the Apple company develops these micro LED screens including for a new wearable for augmented reality, that is, those smart glasses. It was repeatedly talked about smart glasses which Apple is developing, but so far the Americans have not managed to complete the product, but maybe the micro LED screens will simplify things.

If the micro LED screen project will be successful, then Apple intends to use them including in Macs in the future, but there is a long way to go. If the plans from Apple will become reality, then the first micro LED screens for the Apple Watch could be produced as early as 2018, while for the iPhone they could be produced in 2019.
"Apple is gearing up efforts developing micro LED panels for both small-size and large-size applications and has received support from TSMC. Apple is working to develop micro LED panels on silicon-based backplanes for use in the Apple Watch and an augmented reality (AR) wearable device. Apple is also working on another project developing large-size micro LED panels on TFT-based backplanes and will use them in products sized much larger than its MacBooks."
Smart glasses should not be forgotten either, and for them we could see the first micro LED screens only next year, but everything depends on how the development proceeds. Apple wants to produce screens with which to differentiate its products on the market, and the micro LED ones are superior to OLED in terms of brightness, color accuracy, or energy consumption, so they will certainly be highly appreciated.
