iOS 12 has a very interesting hidden change prepared by the Apple company, which unfortunately seems to understand the fact that it must also offer freedom for its customers. A new API implemented especially for iOS 12 will allow the integration of support for Siri in third-party multimedia applications, so Spotify, for example, will be able to be controlled with the personal assistant.
Apple has "resisted" for years and refused to implement this kind of functionality in iOS, but starting with iOS 12 things are changing, even if not everything as we would like. It was desirable that Apple offer more functionality for iOS even without Siri, i.e. those shortcuts, but at least this option is offered for those interested.
iOS 12 will allow Spotify Control via Siri
iOS 12 offers the possibility to provide such functionality for iPhone users, but the implementation of the support depends on the application developers, not on Apple. However, companies like Spotify, Pandora, Deezer, etc., will have the desire to offer people simpler options to control their applications, something that was not possible until now.
"At a WWDC developer session, the company detailed a new "Play Media" intent it was introducing to developers with Siri Shortcuts that will let users summon audio and video media from third-party apps. The integrations would operate much less seamlessly than controls for Apple Music through Siri, but you would theoretically be able to direct Siri on the iPhone or HomePod to a designated playlist or artist on a service like Spotify."
iOS 12 will only be released in the fall, and until then all developers willing to implement this kind of support in applications will have the opportunity to do so. If you were to ask me, I would say that all the big application developers with services like Spotify will want to take the opportunity to integrate support for Siri, although until now it was not possible.
