Samsung innovates for phones, and today we're talking about a function that we don't have in smartphones yet, but which can be implemented by the Koreans in the not too distant future. The researchers at Samsung Display managed to create a very interesting technology that allows users not only to scan their fingerprints through their phones, but to use that fingerprint reader to measure their body temperature when they need it.

Samsung offers the possibility to measure blood pressure with special sensors implemented in the current phones, but for the future it seems that we will have much more from the Korean company. Apart from the fact that the phones will be able to measure the body temperature through the fingerprint reader, Samsung engineers say that this technology will substantially increase the security of the phones after its official implementation, no matter when that happens.

Samsung claims that by implementing the possibility of measuring body temperature in fingerprint readers, users benefit from high security, because only a living person will be able to unlock a smartphone. This technology is basically an additional security measure that will prevent the unlocking of phones using fingerprints reproduced by third parties, but at the same time it will prevent the authorities from unlocking the phones of people who have died, which has already happened in at least one case.

"In order to prevent the fingerprint forgery using artificial fingerprints, the temperature of human finger skin can be detected using temperature sensors to distinguish real and counterfeit fingerprints...improving security levels further. ... to monitor the temperature range of human finger skin, which enables the recognition of artificial fingerprints, thus improving security."

Samsung is preparing to give up fingerprint readers in premium phones starting with Samsung Galaxy S10, so the announcement of the development of this technology comes at a rather unusual time, since these fingerprint readers will disappear. Despite this, the phones that will continue to offer fingerprint readers could have advanced functionality offered by this technology developed by Samsung, but also a much higher security, something that everyone wants, in the end.
