5G is the future of mobile networks, both in Romania and anywhere else on the planet, but in our country the ANCOM have established the frequencies on which the future networks will be built, as well as the spectrum auction calendar. Those from ANCOM made the decision after consultations with representatives of the mobile operators that will build the 5G networks in Romania, so we finally know how things will turn out.
5G in Romania will arrive in 2020 at the earliest, according to what was announced by ANCOM, the Romanian authorities saying that they will auction the spectrum that includes the frequencies of 470-790 MHz, but most likely only in 2019. ANCOM will elaborate until July 2019 the necessary documentation to be able to make the tender for the spectrum of the future 5G networks, this will be organized until, at the latest, in December 2019, so it is possible to take place even earlier.
5G in Romania, Here's WHEN the FIRST Networks will be Launched
5G was announced from the very beginning in Romania as being ready for launch sometime around 2020, so the announcement from ANCOm does nothing but confirm the estimates of mobile operators. In a year and a half, the operators will have time to prepare both for the auction in which they will buy the spectrum for the future 5G networks, as well as for the installation of the equipment on the basis of which these networks will operate in Romania.
"ANCOM debated and adopted today together with the industry, during a meeting of the Advisory Council, the plan of measures and the national calendar regarding the allocation of the 470-790 MHz frequency band. We will finalize all documentation of this auction, which means starting prices, by July 2019 and close the spectrum auction by December 2019 at the latest."
We will have 5G in Romania from Orange, Vodafone, Telekom and Digi Mobil, all four major mobile operators announcing their intention to create the necessary infrastructure for the launch of these networks. It is not known which of the operators will launch a 5G network first, but if you were to ask me, I would say that one of the first three, Orange doing a test in Romania this month, those from Telekom doing tests in Germany for some time, so anything is possible.
