FBI has released a major warning that has the entire world in mind, the famous American government agency trying to protect people around the world from an extremely serious problem. More precisely, those from the FBI have obtained information according to which a group of hackers intends to carry out an attack against banks and payment processors from various corners of the globe in the coming days in order to steal significant sums of money.
The FBI has sent a large number of banks warnings that their infrastructure or payment processors may be infected with malware that will be used to steal money through their ATMs. According to those from the FBI, the malware will change the payment limits for the clients' accounts, after taking over their data, and unlimited amounts of money can be withdrawn through the banks' ATMs, as much as each individual device contains.
FBI: MAJOR WARNING for the WHOLE World
The FBI claims that the hackers will work in tandem with people in various corners of the planet, who will create fake bank cards, which will then be used to withdraw money from various ATMs. The FBI claims that the attack will be coordinated in such a way that everyone withdraws money from ATMs at the same time, the American federal agency warning that the damages can amount to several million dollars in just a few hours.
"The FBI has obtained unspecified reporting indicating cyber criminals are planning to conduct a global Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cash-out scheme in the coming days, likely associated with an unknown card issuer breach and commonly referred to as an 'unlimited operation'. The cyber criminals typically create fraudulent copies of legitimate cards by sending stolen card data to co-conspirators who imprint the data on reusable magnetic strip cards, such as gift cards purchased at retail stores. At a pre-determined time, the co-conspirators withdraw account funds from ATMs using these cards."
The FBI is now warning about this attack because it probably has data on its planning, but it is by no means the first of its kind, others being carried out in the past, including in Romania, in our country the money was drawn through ATMs. Now those from the FBI do not provide clear details regarding the dates in which these attacks would take place, but they could be done on the weekend, when the banks are closed and the money is easier to withdraw, especially since we are talking about emptying the devices.
