Google Chrome has a major problem discovered in browser by computer security researchers, who managed to find a vulnerability that allows them to retrieve certain data about browser users. More precisely, an existing vulnerability in Google Chrome can be exploited by hackers to insert HTML code into web pages accessed by users, which can then be used to discover data about them.
Google Chrome reveals certain data about users when this HTML code introduced by hackers is displayed in tandem with buttons or information sections that retrieve data from Facebook or Google. If the user uses Google Chrome logged into Facebook, or a Google service, then hackers can retrieve certain data when this information is displayed on the page, and the HTML code is also injected through that vulnerability.
Google Chrome: MAJOR PROBLEM Discovered
Google Chrome is only affected in versions lower than the 68 available at the moment, so hackers can only attack people who have not made the latest updates for the browser. Those who have installed the latest update for the Google Chrome browser, or those who are not browsing logged in to Facebook, or any Google service, should be safe, although data could be extracted from other services they use.
"For example, a bad actor can create sizeable Facebook posts for each possible age, using the Audience Restriction option, making Facebook reflect the user's age through the response size. The same method can be used to extract the user gender, likes, and many other user properties we were able to reflect through crafted posts or Facebook's Graph Search endpoints."
Google Chrome is not the first vulnerability that endangers the data that users have, over time others were discovered that were at least as dangerous for those who used it to browse the Internet. Those at Google are definitely aware of problems of this kind, and they definitely try to solve them as quickly as they find out about their existence, but in the meantime it is good to know that you must have the latest version of Google Chrome.
