iPhone: HOW MUCH would Integrating 5G in Phones COST

The iPhone will have 5G integrated by the Apple company, and today we also find out how much it would cost to implement this technology in Apple phones.

iPhone COSTA 5G Phones

iPhone will have 5G technology implemented by the Apple company in the not too distant future, but the Americans are not in a hurry for now because there are no 5G networks on which the phones they launch can be used. In this idea, Apple is waiting for 5G technology to be adopted on a large scale, and then it will implement support in the iPhone, the costs to provide such technology being quite high, according to new data.

IERI (Yesterday) Nokia announced how much it will charge for each phone that will have 5G, but separately from them, Qualcomm also announced what prices it will charge for its technologies that will be used in phones. Apart from these two companies, others have started to provide information regarding the licensing fees for the implementation of 5G in phones, and thus it was possible to calculate approximately how much Apple should pay to integrate this technology in its future phones.

iPhone: HOW MUCH would Integrating 5G in Phones COST

The implementation of 5G in the iPhone would cost the Apple company approximately 21 dollars for each unit sold globally, this being the combined price of the licenses that should be paid by the Americans. Of this total amount, 13 dollars would go to Qualcomm, so more than half, the Apple company being obliged to pay this amount for each iPhone, regardless of the disputes with Qualcomm, they still limit the maximum amount for which they ask for the license fee.

"Apple could theoretically end up paying $21 or more per phone to cover licensing fees from 5G-related patents for future iPhones, in large part because of Qualcomm. Nokia announced a flat, 3 euro ($3.48) per-device licensing fee for its 5G standards-essential patents. That contrasts with Ericsson, which is charging on a sliding scale between $2.50 and $5 based on the cost of a device. Qualcomm, however, is licensing its 5G patents at 2.275 percent of a single-mode phone's total price, and 3.25 percent for multi-mode phones, albeit with a $400 price cap."

Interestingly, Apple would pay more for 4G technology than it would for 5G technology, and this is because of the complexity of the technology and the way it is implemented. Having said that, the implementation of 5G in the iPhone will not depend on the price that Apple has to pay for the phones it sells, but on the adoption of the technology on a global scale by mobile phone operators.
