Windows 10 it is part of a very important update launched by the Microsoft company these days, it being thought to solve an extremely complicated problem, with a very dangerous potential. More precisely, I told you last weeks about the new Foreshadow vulnerability, which affects Intel processors, it has not yet had any protection implemented, but those from Microsoft released the first one as an update for Windows 10.
Starting from the last few days, Windows 10 has protection against Foreshadow, but also against some Specter vulnerabilities that had not been blocked by the Microsoft company, all related to Intel. Foreshadow, and versions 3a and 4 of Specter are blocked in this recent update for Windows 10, the installation of the update being mandatory for all those who want to be safe, hackers being able to freely exploit unprotected computers.
Windows 10: IMPORTANT Update Released by Microsoft
Windows 10 in the standard version, and the version for servers, have part of this update, those from Microsoft being one of the multiple updates released in recent months, which are meant to solve problems of Intel processors. Because of those from Intel, the Microsoft company had to allocate important resources to keep the security level of Windows 10 high, but important vulnerabilities will certainly be found in future versions.
"Intel recently announced that they have completed their validations and started to release microcode for recent CPU platforms that are related to Specter Variant 3a (CVE-2018-3640: "Rogue System Register Read (RSRE)"), Specter Variant 4 (CVE- 2018-3639: “Speculative Store Bypass (SSB)”), L1TF (CVE-2018-3615, CVE-2018-3646: “L1 Terminal Fault”). In addition to microcode updates previously released in KB4100347 to address Specter Variant 2 (CVE 2017-5715: "Branch Target Injection"), this update also includes microcode updates from Intel."
Windows 10 is the first operating system that has for the time being implemented any security measure against Foreshadow, and this is because we have not seen similar measures offered by Apple or other companies. It is assumed that Windows 10 will not remain the only operating system that has protections of this kind implemented for users, but for now it is not known when others will be offered by other manufacturers.
Windows 10 will also receive other important updates offered by Microsoft in the coming months, they are scheduled for the Fall Creators Update, and not only that.
